The Idea Just Came to Us!

We both LOVE goat cheese... that really was never even a question. The question was, how could we make a living at doing something we love? Isn't that always the question though? Wait, I should tell you a little bit about me, us... heck, we haven't even done a legal search of the business name yet? The Shadow Hills Cheese Company. It has a nice ring to it I think?

You are asking yourself, "where is Shadow Hills?" I know, I know... it sounds mysterious and fascinating... like me... um, no. But there is never a dull moment in Shadow Hills, I'm here to tell you that! It was a Thursday... I was instant messaging with my Story Producer, we both have a complete love affair with food... we think that any time food is consumed, there should be some type of celebration! And heck, why not?

We both work for a mid level, popular, reality television production company. The work is fun, the people are a bit of a challenge sometimes but all in all, a great place to be. But, we want more...and who doesn't really? It's the American dream right? (however, side bar... I'm Canadian so maybe it's just the independent woman's dream?)
So the question was posed earlier today... "Why not Goat Cheese?" Who makes fantastic goat cheese in our area? The answer, to my delight was, "nobody". That one word opened the flood gates of opportunity in my mind... publicity and marketing ideas; advertising; key sales demo; lastly, goats!

In another life I was a chef and radio personality. This life... post production television executive and goat farmer. I hope that can all fit on the front of a business card? The other half of this crazed idea is my Story Producer, Lisa. Amazing woman... total fooder, heck she spent our hiatus in Napa eating at the best places ever and as any good friend would do, she brought back a menu from Bottega... deeeeeelish!

By now you've figured out we LOVE food and all that it implies. I must have a million different ways to serve goat cheese. Just today we came up with a few new ones. If you are interested, just email me and I'll send them to you.

Check back everyone once in a while for new postings to see how we are coming along with our "goat cheese" business venture... nothing ventured, nothing gained! Stay tuned!

Summer 2017... It's A Wrap!

Although it's topping 114ºF here in Shadow Hills, CA over this long, last-kick-at-Summer holiday weekend, I can't help wishing for that first sign of Fall.  Snuggly sweaters, big fuzzy socks, heavily spiked Hot Cocoa... mmmm, I can just taste it! When we were kids, the end of Summer was always marked by the Jerry Lewis Telethon (was it possible to stay up all night?), shopping for the last bits of things needed to start the new school year and one final Cook Out before Dad would cover up the grill and wheel it back into the garage until next Summer. There were always people visiting at one time or another over Labor Day weekend.  Friends coming back from Holiday up in Cottage Country would stop in, knowing full well the grill would be fired up, ice cold beer in the cooler and that final cannon ball into the pool before they head back to their respective homes in the City.    Man, I think back and smile. Remembering. SNAP OUT OF IT J...

The Best Sauce You'll Ever Want To Make!

I like taking pictures of food.  All food... anywhere, any time.  This obsession is made much easier with my handy, dandy iPhone of course.  I went home and made lunch the other day...sure it doesn't sound like that big of a deal. I was craving my gorgonzola sauce that I have made FOREVER (I actually sold the sauce recipe to the owner of a long standing, popular Studio City haunt after I "Guest Chef'd" there one evening, many, MANY moons ago). As seen here with Agent E, having the "time of our life" ... I really thought the hat was a "good" idea. Sigh. The key to a great gorgonzola sauce is patience.  You have to let the butter JUST BARELY start to brown then you pour in some delicious Pernod and reduce.  I like to set it on fire so you end up having dinner AND a show! It's super fast to make and happily compliments halibut, chicken, shrimp or any pasta.  I'll share the recipe with you.  Try it... I bet it'll become your "...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Yes, it's true.  The air is deliciously filled with smells of gingerbread, figgy pudding...  ...and mulling spice!  It's the start of the always anticipated Christmas baking season.  Below I will share with you three tried and true recipes, The Sugar Cookie,  The Christmas Cookie and the always popular, Mocha Star.  First, I wanted to take a look at the origin of Christmas cookies.   Some of my favorite are the Danish butter cookies and I've yet been able to perfect the ones that were once made by my Mother's best friend for 50 or so years, Kristen Skovsgaard.  Her creations were undoubtedly the best on the planet. Here's what I've been able to dig up on the "birth" (if you will) of the Christmas cookie.  The term cookie first appeared in print in the year 1703.  The origin of the cookie itself comes from the recipes of Medieval Europe. Some believe that the gingerbread cookie was the first flavor to be asso...
